The tropical regions are considered the most important areas in global biodiversity, yet the history of biology in these regions probably is the less studied.
Costa Rica is a particularly interesting country in this respect, both because it is an internationally recognized leader in biodiversity, conservation and ecotourism, and because some studies on the history of Costa Rican tropical biology have been published in recent years.
This website presents information on the history of Costa Rican tropical biology, but it is hoped that other tropical countries will be added in the future, with the collaboration of volunteers.
